The Genesis of the All Inclusive - Hard Rock Cafe - Dec 2012

Posted: 12-21-12

On Tuesday, December 18th Mike (Co-Owner of Dream Makers Vacation Services), Gabby (Assistant at Dream Makers Vacation Services) and myself (Amanda) attended the 2012 Genesis of the All Inclusive party at the Hard Rock Café in Philadelphia, PA. This event was held for travel agents in the Mid-Atlantic region to learn about new and exciting updates for the Hard Rock hotels in the Caribbean!

There are currently 3 all inclusive Hard Rock Hotels in the Caribbean; the Hard Rock Punta Cana located in the Dominican Republic, the Hard Rock Cancun and the Hard Rock Puerto Vallarta located in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. The Hard Rock will also be adding the Riviera Maya to the list. Hard Rock will be transitioning the Aventura Spa Palace and Aventura Cove Palace to the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in 2013. The Hard Rock Riviera Maya will be all inclusive, accommodates adults and children of all ages, and no matter what age you are, everyone is treated like a rock star.

The Hard Rock Riviera Maya will be split into a family side and an adult side in order to ensure couples and families an unforgettable experience. The family side of the resort will include 489 spacious guestrooms, three restaurants, pools and various water activities. The Hard Rock Riviera Maya will also have a kids club, Little Big Club™ where kid's activities are scheduled throughout the week. The Little Big Club also has a Thomas & Friends Activity Depot, Barney's Music Room, Bob the Builder Construction Zone and the Angelina Ballerina Dance Studio! On the family side of the resort, there will also be Family Deluxe Suites that have two adjoining rooms and can accommodate up to six guests.

The adult side of the resort will include 777 guestrooms, four bars and a grotto pool that turns into a nightclub after hours. The entertainment at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya ranges from Michael Jackson impersonators, Samba shows to karaoke and various nightclubs. Concierge service can help guests reserve golf tee times, book massages at the spa and even provide complimentary rides to Moon Palace, Wet 'n Wild and other resorts that are located in the center of Cancun's hotel zone. The Adult Only rooms have stocked mini bars, wine and liquor dispensers, Jacuzzis and flat screen LCD TVs.

Another awesome perk that comes along with the Hard Rock resorts is the $1500 resort credit! This credit can be used towards upgrades, tours, golf, the Colin Cowie wedding collection, romantic dinners, upgraded wine lists, the spa, etc. The tours and excursions that are offered are the Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres, Tulum/Aventura Cove, Premium Dolphin Swim and Aktun Chen.

The Hard Rock resorts are awesome and have something for everyone. Be sure to ask your Dream Makers Vacation Services agent about these resorts and book your next Dream Vacation to one of these rockin' properties.

Secrets the Vine - Days 2 & 3

Posted: 12-13-12

Day Two in Cancun –

My second day in Cancun was a “work day”.  I am fortunate that I get to visit other resorts and enjoy the beauty of Mexico during my work day.  I ate a quick breakfast in the lounge of fruit, pastries, yogurt and cereal and then headed out for the day to visit 2 other resorts in Mexico.

My Butler Vanessa and Concierge Manuela set up cab service for me to visit other resorts for site inspections.  The service has been great at The Vine.  Everyone has been very helpful.

The first resort I visited was the El Dorado Royale.  Flor, the sales manager, greeted me and told me the history of the resort.  It is lovely.  The property is surrounded by palm trees, flowers and vegetation.  We then toured the resort in a golf cart.  This resort is a large resort and is very tropical.  Guest that stay at this resort have access to a golf cart shuttle service that will take them around to different areas of the resort such as the pools, lounges, beach etc.  The beach is a good size beach that you can walk on and there are different areas if you want some privacy.  The beach also has cabanas and palm trees for shade.  The staff was very friendly and fun.  At each restaurant I toured I was surprised with different treats such as tacos, fruit kabob with fresh coconut, veggies and wonderful fresh ice tea.  The gourmet inclusive food at this resort is excellent.  The resort offers 8 ala carte gourmet restaurants, 14 bars and 12 pools.

The room I viewed was a Jr. Suite garden view room with a Jacuzzi.  It was spacious and had a beautiful view of the gardens and overlooked the lagoon river that flows into one of the main pools.

After I toured El Dorado we went to the connecting property which is the El Dorado Casitas.  The Casitas are individual luxury huts where guests can stay.  They have a king bed, sitting area, porch with sun bed or hammock.  They are very private and romantic.

El Dorado offers shows in the evening in an outdoor theater along with fun daily and nightly entertainment such as cooking presentations, dance lessons, pool games and more.  The staff was so friendly that I am looking forward to going back and staying longer.

My wonderful cab drive Manuela was waiting from me to take me to Le Blanc which is located in the Cancun Hotel Zone further down the beach from where I was staying.  I was greeted by Rosario the sales manager.  She gave me a wonderful champagne glass with a coconut milk that is Le Blanc’s signature drink.  Le Blanc is a small intimate resort with gourmet dining, an elegant spa and true luxury service.  The resort is shaped in a triangle so no matter what room you stay in you have a water view.  You will look out at the ocean or the lagoon.  Le Blanc offers a butler on each floor for the guests.  The butler will help them unpack, make dining reservations, and assist them with their needs.  This resort offers 5 restaurants and several bars.  I was also fortunate enough to be able to sample some treats in each restaurant that they have.  I enjoyed shrimp in a mango sauce, sushi and bruchetta.  Everything was wonderful.  To end my site inspection I had a tour of the spa.  Le Blanc’s spa offers every service you could imagine from nails, hair styles, body wraps, massages and a beautiful bridal suite.  One of the neatest things I experiences was the Fish Spa.  You sit in a massage chair and soak your feet in a water basin for a pedicure.   But this is not a normal water basin; it has fish in it that massage your feet.  It was really fun.  I highly recommend Le Blanc if you want to spend time in Mexico and pamper yourself.

Of course, Manuel was waiting for me to take me back to my resort, Secrets The Vine.  I was happy to sneak in a little beach time and enjoy their signature drink a Mango Tango.

I had a light snack at the pool grill; I was still full from all my treats.  The pool grill has outdoor seating and serves hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, Mexican dishes, salads, fruit and desserts daily.  Great for a lunch or snack.

My second night at The Vine I ate at Sea Salt which is a Peruvian restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor seating.  The staff was wonderful and I dined on shrimp, potatoes in a cream sauce and rice pudding for dessert.  The nightly entertainment was a stage show with music, magic and fun.

Day Three in Cancun-

My last day at The Vine I planned on relaxing and enjoying the resort.  I had breakfast at the Market Café and then headed to the beach.  The service on the beach is great.  The staff is there to set up chairs, tables and umbrellas for you as well as serve you drinks and snacks during the day.  I watched the guests play beach volleyball, parasail, Jet Ski and participate in water aerobics.  Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Before lunch I participated in Tequila tasting.  I learned a lot about the history of how it is made and the best kind to buy.  I also met some great couples who were enjoying their honeymoons.

My afternoon was very relaxing, with lunch at the outdoor grill and lounging at the main pool.  The Vine has 3 pools at the resort.  Every afternoon the chefs and restaurant staff come out and parade around the pool area and beach with appetizers for the guest.  The guests clap and cheer and get to try some tasty treats to sample.

My last night I ate at Nebbiolo which is an Italian restaurant at Secrets The Vine.  This was my favorite meal. The restaurant had great service and the menu had many great choices.  I had a salad from the antipasti bar and enjoyed linguine and amaretto cake for dessert.  It was a great meal to end my trip.

On the morning of my departure the staff in the Preferred Club Lounge confirmed my transfers to the airport and processed my check out.  Everyone I met on my travels was very kind and helpful.  I had a great trip and am looking forward to visiting Mexico again. To reserve your dream vacation to Secrets the Vine please contact your favorite Dream agent for an experience of a lifetime.

Secrets the Vine - Day 1

Posted: 12-10-12

I was fortunate recently to be traveling on a workation for Dream Makers Vacation Services. I was very excited to be visiting Mexico and to be staying at a brand new resort.  When I arrived at Secrets The Vine I was greeted at the door with a cool towel and a bubbling glass of champagne, a great way to start a trip.  A staff member gave me a tour of the resort while on the way to my private check in.  I got to see the lobby area which has a beautiful fire place, several of the lounges, The Market Café, spa, fitness center and preferred club pool.  Then I was escorted to the VIP Lounge for my check in.  I stayed in a Preferred Club Honeymoon Ocean View Suite.  The concierge at the lounge processed my check in.  While I waited for my room keys I was able to enjoy a wonderful snack and beverage in the lounge.  The preferred club lounge offers bite size snacks, appetizers, fruit, desserts and drinks throughout the day.

Secrets The Vine is a contemporary resort with sleek décor of wood, chrome and silver.  It is very beautiful.  Shortly after my snack Vanessa my butler greeted me with my room keys and showed me to my room.  The suite was beautiful.  It had an entry way with several closets and a lot of storage, large bathroom with rain shower, a sitting area with sofa, chairs, TV and lounge chairs, king bed and an oversized balcony overlooking the ocean on one side and the lagoon on the other.

I ate lunch at the Market Café which serves a buffet for breakfast and lunch and is a Mexican restaurant for dinner.  The buffet offered many choices for lunch such as fruits, veggies, salads, carved meats, Mexican dishes, and more.  After lunch I decided to check out the beach.  This resort sits on a great beach.  It is very long, and you can walk for miles up and down it.  This resort is located in the resort zone area in Cancun.  It is also a wide beach which has plenty of room for lounge chairs, sand volleyball and the water sports area.

For dinner I ate at the Bluewater Grill which is a steak house.  The food was excellent.  All the meats are prepared over charcoal to give them a distinct flavor.  I also received an excellent lesson in wine pairing from my waiter.  I dined on steak, asparagus, potato soufflé, and raspberry mouse.  It was delicious.

For the evening’s entertainment the staff set up a large screen on the beach and had chairs out for guests to watch Monday night football.  They also provide wings, nachos, snacks and drinks.  It was a lot of fun.

Fantasyland Grand Opening 2012-Day 2

Posted: 12-07-12

This morning was the official grand opening of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. It was a wonderful celebration done in true Disney style. The celebration was held at Cinderella’s Castle and featured Ginnifer Goodwin of ABC’s Once Upon A Time. Mickey Mouse and all of his friends were on hand for the celebration that featured dancing and a performance by Jordin Sparks. It was a wonderful experience and the new Fantasyland is a wonderful addition to Magic Kingdom. There are still a few works in progress such as the Princess Fairytale Hall a character meet and greet that will open in 2013. The Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train is also under construction and set to open in 2014. When complete is will be the largest expansion in Disney’s history.

After the opening we headed to Epcot for lunch and a meeting with the Disney sales and management teams. It was a wonderful lunch buffet featuring dishes from the countries represented in Epcot. We learned about a few new programs in the works including a phone app to make the guest experience here at Disney even better. After the meeting we had a few hours of free time to enjoy the parks. I headed over to Hollywood Studios to check out the new Pirate’s of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow. This is a new interactive walk through experience. It is very nicely done and is a must see especially if you like the movies.

This evening was the private grand opening party for Test Track located at Epcot. Test Track has been closed and completely reimagined over the past few months. The party was great and had multiple food locations set up throughout the area and featured a performance by the band One Republic. Chevrolet is the sponsor of Test Track and has done a great job. We got a first look at the now interactive Test Track which features an area where you design your own “sim car”. The track remains the same but the ride theming has been totally redone. The ride was awesome and once you exit you can use the card with your created car design to do quite a few more interactive activities such as creating a commercial and taking a picture with your “sim” car.

After the party we had front row seat for Illuminations at World Showcase. This is a firework and laser show that is a must see on your next trip to WDW. Sadly, I must head home from the magic of Disney in the morning but it has been a great experience. Thank you to our dream clients who make this all possible for us!

Fantasyland Grand Opening 2012-Day 1

Posted: 12-06-12

I, Robyn Ayers, had the privilege to travel to Walt Disney World today for the grand opening celebration of the new Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. This is truly an honor to be able to attend such a special event. Dream Makers Vacation Services has the honor of being an Ear Marked agency, which gives us special opportunities and knowledge to share with our clients. I arrived this morning and headed to the Disney Welcome Center at Orlando International Airport. This is where you board the complimentary Disney’s Magical Express for your transfers to your resort hotel. The best part is Disney sends you luggage tags which allows you to skip baggage claim and Disney will collect your bags and deliver them to your room.

I am staying at the Beach Club which is a great deluxe resort located within walking distance to Epcot. You can also easily take a boat over to Hollywood Studios. This afternoon we headed over for a VIP preview of the new Splitsville luxury bowling lanes located at Downtown Disney. It has two levels with bowling lanes on each level. They also have pool tables and have a full service menu. Today we sampled cheeseburger sliders, turkey club sandwiches, pizza and sushi. Everything I tried was really good. Splitsville will be opening to the public very soon and is definitely worth a visit.

Tonight was the preview party of the all new Fantasyland. This was an invitation only private event and we were honored to be invited. As we entered Fantasyland there were tables of food, drinks and desserts spread out throughout the area. After eating we wandered through all of the new attractions. We entered through Storybook Circus which has old favorites like The Barnstormer and Dumbo. There are now two Dumbo rides and a play area for the kids while they are waiting to ride. Instead of standing in line you receive a pager and head into the play area until it’s your turn to ride. This is a great addition to a family favorite!

We then made our way to the new Enchanted Forest which is home to the new Be Our Guest restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the details inside are incredible. You will also find Belle’s Cottage here which is an interactive walk through which is a first for Disney. Ariel’s Grotto and the new Under the Sea –Journey of the Little Mermaid ride are located here as well. Disney really has done an awesome job with the new Fantasyland and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to experience it tonight.

We ended our fantastic night with a special holiday version of Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. Tomorrow I will be at the official grand opening of Fantasyland and then the opening of Test Track in the evening. More to come from magical Walt Disney World!

STAR Awards 2012 - Day 3 - New Village at Beaches Turks & Caicos - Key West Luxury Village

Posted: 12-03-12

The morning started with a meeting hosted by Butch Stewart, the owner of Sandals & Beaches.  He spoke for 45 min and then Adam Stewart, CEO spoke for a 1/2.  The highlight was the new Grenadian property and the expansion of Beaches Turks & Caicos.

Sandals La Source Grenada opening the Spring 2013.  Sandals La Source Grenada currently has 108 rooms, but they will end up with 225.  They are upgrading the bedrooms and building a 5 story block.  They will have River suites and Penthouse Palace Suites with plunge pools.  They are also building one bedroom suites with plunge pool suites like in Antigua.  They are making rondoval suites.  Entry level rooms will be nice. There are 40 of those rooms. Of course, all of these details are subject to change as things proceed.

Beaches Turks & Caicos bought the Veranda.  The new village at Beaches Turks & Caicos is called Beaches Key West Luxury Village.  It has 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom cottages.  Most have washer/dryers and full blown kitchens.  It is opening as a Beaches property in January 2013.  Beaches Turks & Caicos already doubled the size of the nursery.  They doubled the size of Kimonos and increased the size of the sushi bar by 3 times.   When it opens, they will have 19 restaurants, but eventually have 21 restaurants.  It has been a long time in the making.  The water park will be expanded.  This is a really good thing.  These suites are very large and can accommodate large families or families traveling together.  The suites will be concierge and butler. They said we should be able to start selling it Dec 18.  If you are interested, contact us.  We will put you on the waiting list for pricing.  By the way, Grace Bay beach was again voted the best beach in the world so this is another incentive to visit this beautiful island.

They also discussed a number of other things that are going on.  Some of interest:

- Sandals Is the only company in the Caribbean that owns every resort, except one.  They are a private organization, not public.  Dividends go to improve property rather than shareholders.

-  Sandals is adding 15% more staff to support the new resort in Grenada and the new Village in Turks & Caicos.  In January Sandals created their own corporate university.  They can get their degree in Hospitality.

- Sandals Foundation is a charitable organization that gives back to the Caribbean.  100% of the money raised goes directly to work.  For example, they chartered 10 American Airlines planes filled with supplies to help those victims of Haiti's earth quake.  They bring in dentists and eye doctors who volunteer to help families in the Caribbean.

- They started a new program called Discovery dining.  We will get videos that explain the program.  They spend $15 million into ingredients.  In specialty restaurants, food will be cooked by chefs from that country.  Italian chefs cook Italian.  Japanese cooking Japanese food.  They are working with organic farms in Jamaica and St Lucia.  They will have organic restaurants.

- They are looking at a property in Barbados and in Dragon Bay Jamaica.  The Dragon Bay property will most likely be open in 2014.

- The long awaited over the water suites in St Lucia are getting approved by the government.  Once they get the signed paper, they will get to work.

- And for our Destination Wedding Brides, they implemented the new 72 hour courtesy hold for wedding times.  That way, the brides can confirm their wedding date/time held to give them time to decide what room category they want.

After the meeting, we had some free time to enjoy the sun and sand.  We took the time to hang out at the pool and be lazy.

The awards started at 6 pm with cocktails.  We got to see many of our travel partners dressed up.  It is a very exclusive affair.  Seating for dinner started at 7pm.  We were seated at Gary Sadler's table.  Dinner was very good.  The awards were wonderful.  Dream Makers Vacation Services earned a number of awards.  We earned Best of the Best in the Mid Atlantic Region, Top Concierge in the Mid Atlantic Region, Top Agency for selling Beaches in the US (no one sells more Beaches rooms than Dream Makers Vacation Services), and for the 3 year in a row, Top Ten in the World for Selling Sandals & Beaches.  We are very honored to accept these awards.   We thank all of you, our clients for making this possible.  We appreciate your continued support and look forward to serving you for many years to come.

STAR Awards 2012 - Day 2

Posted: 12-01-12

This morning was the shark dive, through Sandals. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication about the time and I missed the dive.  Darn.  I was looking forward to it.

So, I took the wetlands tour.  They drove us out to the wetlands.  They had some children there from a local school.  They were teaching them about the mangroves and the different kinds that grow there.  After that, we split into 3 groups and went out in the wetlands with the kids.  It was very interesting.  This is offered through the Sandals Foundation.

I was honored to be invited to a Chairman's Club luncheon, which is an exclusive group for Sandals and Beaches top agents.  Our co-owner Amy is also a part of this group.  It was a lovely luncheon and we appreciate everyone's support in getting us there.

Tomorrow we will have a morning group meeting with Adam Stewart and then have the actual STAR awards ceremony at night.  More to come from the beautiful Bahamas

STAR Awards 2012 - Day 1 (Mike's Arrival Day)

Posted: 11-30-12

Michael McHugh traveled to Sandals & Beaches STAR Awards today.  They are being held at Sandals Royal Bahama in Nassau, Bahamas.  Only the top travel agencies in the country were invited.  It is an honor to be here every year.

The flights were fine with no issues.  Getting through immigration was a breeze and the new immigration building is nice.  Even though there were a lot of people the line moved quickly.  The ride to the resort took 15 minutes.

Because we were there for the STAR Awards we had a special check-in.  It was quick and we got our gifts and room assignments.  We are in the Balmoral Building which was newly renovated.  We have a nice Oceanview room.  Dinner was on the private island.  However, because the seas were rough, we ate at the Crystal Room.  The food was very good.  I had the soup, which was a creamy chicken soup.  It was a little spicy and very good.  The Crystal Salad and the veal.  All were very good.

I went to Cricketeers after dinner and hung out with some of our Travel Partners.  Tomorrow I go on a shark dive!
